If you want to be a successful leader, you need to know what you stand for. And I'm not just talking about some vague, generic values that you read on a motivational poster. I'm talking about core values that you deeply believe in, that guide your every action, and that drive your vision.
When you have core values that drive your vision, you have a roadmap for your leadership. You know exactly where you're going and how you're going to get there. And when things get tough, you can fall back on your core values to guide you through the storm.
Now, you might be thinking, "That all sounds great, but how do I figure out my core values?" It's a fair question. It takes some deep self-reflection and honesty, but it's worth it.
Start by thinking about what's truly important to you. What makes you tick? What makes you angry? What makes you happy? What gets you out of bed in the morning? Once you have a list of things that matter to you, start narrowing it down. What are the absolute non-negotiables? What values are so important to you that you would never compromise them?
Your core values should be a reflection of who you are and what you stand for. They should be unique to you, and they should be unwavering.
Once you have your core values, use them to guide your vision. Your vision should align with your values, and your values must drive your actions. When you have a clear understanding of how they relate to your vision, you can communicate your vision more effectively and inspire others to follow you.
